Grants Manager

Duties

Reports directly to Vice President of Development and responsible researching, writing and submitting foundation grant opportunities for general operating and program support.
  • Identify, research and evaluate new, existing foundation grant opportunities for capital campaign, general operating support and restricted programs.
  • Lead prospects through all stages of solicitation process.
  • Develop proposals which are within the Zoo’s mission and strategy and have clearly identified delivery capacity and agreed budgets.
  • Manage Foundation grants, including responsibility for meeting or exceeding the annual fund raising goal.
  • Track, update and monitor status of pending grant submissions and re-submissions.
  • Participate in development of expense and revenue budgets for Foundations.
  • Work with board of directors, committee members and various Zoo departments to generate support for the Foundations.
  • Coordinate the gathering of information from other departments (i.e., Education and Finance), prepare and submit requested grant reports by due date according to foundation specifications.

Requirements

  • Prior grant writing experience preferred.
  • Bachelors degree and at least two (2) years sales experience; experience in a development office preferred.
  • Demonstrated success generating results through outbound sales and networking.
  • Proficiency with Word and Excel; experience working with a donor database preferred.
  • Strong writing skills and experience composing business correspondence.
  • Excellent administrative, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; mature and professional manner; ability to communicate with poise and tact with donors, staff, vendors; ability to maintain confidence and act with discretion.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of team.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, which may include weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Successful completion of a drug screen and tuberculosis test prior to starting work.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check prior to beginning work.
  • No allergies to plants or animals which may interfere with ability to work.
