PHILADELPHIA ZOO TO HOST ANNUAL WILD AT HEART CELEBRATION
A family-friendly Valentine’s Day event
PHILADELPHIA, PA (
January 22, 2014) – Philadelphia Zoo is hosting its annual family-friendly Valentine’s Day celebration, Wild at Heart
. The weekend-long event, which offers visitors exciting love-themed activities, runs from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 15 and Sunday, February 16.
Families can participate in a self-guided love tour, exploring the world of wildlife couples at the Zoo. Throughout the tour, participants move from exhibit to exhibit learning about animal rituals such as coupling, parenting and mating. Find out how the African lions in First Niagara Big Cat Falls attract each other, how white-handed gibbons in PECO Primate Reserve usually spend their entire lives together and much more. Watch as animals such as snow leopards, pumas, orangutans and polar bears enjoy treats from their keepers.
Another highlight of the weekend -- local bakeries, including Bredenbecks, UNIK Cakes and more, will compete in a 3-dimensional novelty Valentine’s Day-themed cake-decorating contest on Saturday, February 15th
from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Rare Animal Conservation Center. Guests can vote for their favorite cake at the Zoo on Saturday and Sunday or online at our Facebook
page. A winner will be announced on the Zoo’s website.
“Wild at Heart
is a great opportunity for the whole family to celebrate Valentine’s Day together, while learning something new about their favorite wild animals,” says Amy Shearer, Chief Marketing Officer, Philadelphia Zoo. “It’s also exciting for us to host local bakeries here, on Zoo grounds, and watch them showcase their abilities to create festive and delicious cakes.”
