Early Chilhood Playworker Internship
The 2014 Summer internship application deadline has been extended to March 8.
This internship is designed to give early childhood education students practical experience in education, child development, program design and implementation. Interns will provide an exciting new educational experience to our youngest guests while gaining a broad understanding of the Zoo’s Education Team and how it operates.
Program Design: Interns will assist in creating and managing an interactive play space for young children in the Zoo’s new exhibit, KidZooU. These activities will be geared towards guests ages 2 - 6 and will focus on child development with the goals of creating empathy towards animals and nature.
Program Implementation: Interns will assist with staffing and participate in the activities they design. In some cases they may be asked to mentor volunteers and other interns to help fulfill their objective. Interns will also be responsible for the upkeep of their “play” area. As a part of the Education Team, interns will explore the inner workings of an informal education environment and participate in our many day-to-day operations. Through formal presentations, informal conversations and research activities, interns will interpret many of the Zoo’s daily activities and will encourage visitors to participate, touch, and ask questions that will increase their knowledge of our animal collection.
