Corporate Sustainability Analyst

Duties

Come sharpen your business and sustainability skills learning corporate sustainability in action at Philadelphia Zoo!
 
You will (potentially, depending on your skillset, experience, and current organizational needs):
  • Develop and support internal and external communications and events related to environmental sustainability within the Zoo
  • Participate in strategic organizational change management efforts related to corporate sustainability within the Zoo, and support complimentary external partnerships
  • Conduct critical research and analysis related to sustainability efforts
  • Help to manage and analyze sustainability performance data, including energy performance and efficiency, and greenhouse gas inventories and lifecycle cost/supply chain analysis
  • Work closely with Sustainability Manager, Engineering Superintendent, Landscape Architect, and key design, planning, and project management staff to help investigate, develop, design, and manage new efficiency and  energy projects
  • Conduct audits of energy and/or water systems or supply chain analysis to verify performance and identify opportunities for enhanced performance
Through this and on-the-job mentoring, you will develop and enhance your communication, organizational management, business, and critical thinking skills and learn about sustainability within a large, reputable, non-profit institution. Your potential direct participation in sustainability project development and management and related lifecycle cost analysis and employee engagement activities will prepare you for future opportunities in this growing area of corporate practice.

Requirements
  • Senior year undergraduate, post-graduate, or graduate level with environmental science, engineering, business, architecture, communications, journalism, marketing, or other environmental sustainability-related major or work experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications for communication and data management; strong Excel skills a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize IT, including social media and web applications; familiarity with web-based enterprise solutions (e.g., intranet, DDC/BCS), other data management, GIS, statistical software, and other types of specialized IT related to sustainability is always a plus  
  • Strong research skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, but also strong team player
  • Interest in sustainability (of course, direct experience or expertise is a plus!) and working at Zoo!
Availability

This internship is offered during the fall, spring, and summer semesters (hours differ based on season, and can be tailored to your availability).

A minimum 20 hour weekly commitment is required.

This position typically involves a Monday-Friday business hour schedule, but duties may necessitate participation in occasional evening and weekend events. Schedule flexibility and partial telecommuting are possible.
