When Lourene accepted the Docent Council presidency two years ago, she was no stranger to conservation and she's even more familiar with it today. Under her leadership, the Council has grown as a whole, integrating further with the Zoo's conservation, education and animal departments to help advance its Mission. Docent participation in Zoo special events, ownership of Earth Day events and the launching of their own conservation initiative to save douc langur monkeys by recycling cell phones, Return the Call of the Wild, are just a few examples of the Docent activities of which Lourene is most proud.

As her presidential term draws to a close, Lourene hopes the Docents will continue to explore new ways to raise conservation awareness and involve Zoo visitors in protecting wildlife. Once an official "Monday Docent" again, she plans to get back to the lions - in Bank of America Big Cat Falls - where she'll spend much of her time talking about the Laikipia Predator Project and ways to protect these regal creatures-- not her favorite animal but you'd never know it.
