Caring for the environment is one of the things kids do best. When "kid curiosity" about the natural world is nurtured by a supportive mentor an eco-success story is often born! Large or small, long-term or short-term, conservation projects started by kids are inspirational and noteworthy. Do you have a Kids Care story to share? In a belated celebration of the United States' Senate declaration of May 11th as Endangered Species Day, we'd like to acknowledge and thank children and young adults who have tried to make a difference for wildlife. Researchers, conservationists, government officials and private citizens around the world are working tirelessly every day to protect and conserve wildlife and natural resources, and children making efforts towards accomplishing these same goals should be rewarded and encouraged. The Kids Care section of Wildlife Matters is devoted to recognizing kids who have gone out of their way to make a difference for animals or the environment. Some projects are initiated by a group while others are implemented by one person, but all are valuable tools for raising awareness, funds and compassion for the world around us. As a reminder of the amazing achievements of kids featured in previous issues of Wildlife Matters, links to their stories are below. If you have a Kids Care story, we would love to hear it! Please pass it onto to us and we'll make every effort to include it in an upcoming issue. If you don't, it's never too late to start!
