Raise Awareness

Hmmm. Door number one or door number two? It's hard to make good choices with little or no information, yet this is often what happens.

Surviving Out of the Wild

Sunday, March 13, 2005; 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge, 4 Sawmill Road, Medford, N.J.
$15 per Zoo member; $20 per nonmember. Light snacks will be provided
Registration deadline is March 10.

The Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge in New Jersey and the Endangered Primate Rescue Center in Vietnam may be on opposite sides of the globe, but the animals in their care are facing a common threat to their survival.

From foxes on leashes to white-tailed deer sporting harnesses, local authorities routinely bring animals that have been confiscated as pets to the Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge because they are no longer able to live in the wild. On March 13th you will have an opportunity to take a private tour of the wildlife compound and rehab center, where you'll meet some of its patients and learn about the techniques used to care for them. Before the tour, you'll hear Philadelphia Zoo douc langur keeper, Anna Halko-Angemi, Zoo Director of Public Programs Kristen Lewis and Delaware Valley College Assistant Professor Dr. Jenny Campbell give an informal presentation. Join them for a discussion of the specialized anatomy and dietary needs of douc langurs, the role of nutrition in captive breeding programs and a novel approach by the Zoo to raise awareness about bushmeat-a serious threat to the survival of douc langurs.
