As Project EFFECT continues to evolve into an increasingly valuable community resource and gathering place, SAVE is building Project Connections, an eco-environmental center, right next door. Sustainable energy is a strong focus of the newest SAVE facility which will meet all of its heating and electrical needs "off-grid" by utilizing solar power and wind-generated electricity. A living roof garden will also help to keep the building cool in the summer and warm in the winter. First grade environmental education lessons currently taught by SAVE members at Project EFFECT will be held in the environmental center when it opens in 2006.

In recognition of their extraordinary accomplishments, the SAVE Club has been given the 2005 Presidential Environmental Youth Award (PEYA), representing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency EPA, Region III. SAVE's mission "to create a sustainable world by spreading information about environmental problems and encouraging appropriate public involvement in the solutions to those problems" aligns with community-based conservation practices used around the world. Whether you're working to save jaguars or to reduce people's impact on the planet, engaging local communities is critical to long-term success. Just ask SAVE!
