Service Animals

Service animals are welcome at the Zoo. Emotional support animals, therapy animals, and pets are not permitted. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, a service animal is defined as a dog or miniature pony that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability.

All service animals must remain on a standard leash at all times for the duration of your visit. Retractable leashes are prohibited and a standard leash will be provided by the Zoo if needed. Service animals must remain on the ground at all times; holding service animals in-hand or in strollers, wagons, backpacks, bags, etc. is prohibited.

Guidelines and guest responsibility: Be aware that geese, squirrels, and other local wildlife roam freely throughout the Zoo. Clean up and dispose of any waste your service animal may leave. Look for any indications that a Zoo animal may be upset, exhibiting behaviors like excessive flying, running or vocalizing. If you notice any of these behaviors, please step away from the distressed animal. Some areas may require a Zoo staff escort (KidZooU Barnyard, Lemur Island, McNeil Avian Center and Wings of the World). Thank you for following these guidelines and ensuring a safe and fun experience at Philadelphia Zoo for you, the service animal, other Zoo guests and our animals.

Dietary & Medicinal Needs

Guests with special dietary needs are welcome to bring their own food, beverages, and coolers into the Zoo. Glass and outside alcohol are prohibited.

Some dining options may not be available during your visit. While our concessions staff will work to accommodate all allergies, many foods are prepared in the same vessel, so there may be a possibility of cross-contamination.

Water fountains are available throughout the Zoo (these are turned off during the Winter season). See locations on our Zoo Map.

The Zoo is unable to provide refrigeration of any kind for any items that may need to be kept cool. We advise that if you require certain items (food or medicine) to be kept chilled, you may bring in a cooler with you. We welcome visitors to administer or tend to medical needs where they feel comfortable in the park. We have many quieter places off of the main path, benches, and family restrooms to utilize.

Restroom Facilities

The Zoo offers family restrooms at the Main Entrance, KidZooU, and WildWorks Plaza. KidZooU family restrooms are equipped with adult-size changing tables.
